It can be overwhelming trying to figure out how many TikToks you should post per day.
There is a ton of conflicting information out there from people who seemingly have nothing to do all day except create TikTok content.
You need to post a minimum of 1 TikTok a day to gain followers. The most common advice is that you need to post 3 TikToks a day to grow your account, however, that has become less true as the app has become saturated. Even 1 extremely high quality post a week can be enough to gain followers.
In this article I’ll help you figure out how many TikToks you should be posting, because the answer isn’t one size fits all.
I’ll also share my personal data about what I’ve seen from posting 3x a day, 1x a day, and 3x a week.
Your ideal TikTok frequency will depend on your niche, your goals, and how much free time you have to make content!
Consistency Is More Important Than Frequency
In any social media game, frequency and never quitting is going to be much more important than how many times a day or week you’re posting.
It’s easy to listen to people yelling online that you have to post three times a day or else you won’t gain followers, but that’s just not true.
I grew my account to over 10,000 followers in under a month by posting 3 times a week.
Posting multiple TikToks a day is great, but it’s simply not realistic for most people.
Additionally, if you’re posting 3 videos a day, it means you have to create content that can be made extremely quickly.
This means you can’t use the writing, filming, and editing techniques that most commonly draw people in.
Quality Is More Important Than Frequency
I recently started new accounts on all social platforms for my business.
To test the 3 times a day advice, for the first two weeks of my business I posted 3 times a day, every day.
To create this content I had to think of topics I could speak off the cuff on, since I had to create 15 videos a week.
Although I am very proud of those videos, the algorithm did not care to share it to very many people.
I got stuck in the 200 view dungeon, and not a single video got more than 1,000 views.
Remember that I’ve already grown many accounts in my lifetime and had countless videos get over a million views.
I say this to say that it’s not like my content was particularly bad, it was lit and edited well, on topic and generally following trends.
However, TikTok did not push it out to people.
I then decided to only post 1 time a day, but to spend 3 times as much effort on that single video.
I was able to do more research, change shots more often, and shoot more takes.
Immediately, my average views rose to 4,000 per video. This is over 20 times more than before, and obviously I’ve stuck with posting once a day since then.
Posting Multiple Times A Day Is Great If You Don’t Get Burned Out
Ever since I switched from making 3 lower effort videos a day to 1 higher effort video that gets more views, I’ve had a nagging thought.
If I could make 3 higher effort videos a day, wouldn’t that be even better?
The answer is yes, probably, for my TikTik’s health.
I don’t think the answer would be yes for my or my business’s health.
Let’s call it what it is: posting on social media is unpaid labor.
You’re a real person who deserves to have balance in their life.
When people ask things like: is posting twice a day on TikTok enough? I want to say to them yes! Of course!
That’s so much time spent making content for an app that does not care about you.
Obviously we can all benefit if we hit social gold and our lives are turned around, but protecting yourself and burnout should be your top priorities.
Posting One Time A Day Is A Huge Accomplish
If you are ever ‘only’ posting once a day and wondering if it’s enough – it is!
That is an incredible amount of content in a month or year, please give yourself a pat on the back.
And if you can’t post once a day – I totally get it!
It’s literally my job to make social content and it’s still a struggle to churn out a video a day, every day.
Posting Once A Week Can Still Lead To Great Growth
Now look, posting once a week means that you’re going to have to be an amazing poster, but you can totally grow at that rate.
Especially if you’re doing more complicated to shoot videos, educational information, or anything where there are a ton of hours put into your content behind the scenes.
My friend Alexia only posts once a week, and she’s at over a million followers.
But if you look at the amount of work she puts into her videos, plus the amount of work she put into getting the acting and writing skills she uses in them, it makes sense.
You Should Wait A Couple of Hours Before Posting Another TikTok
You should only post one TikTok video at a time, and wait 2 to 4 hours before posting again. This allows the algorithm to show your next video to a different group of people including people in another time zone, that are using the app. The exception to this is if you have a video going viral currently, in which case you should release your next video immediately.
You Can Only Get Shadowbanned For Posting Too Much If You’re A Spammer
You cannot be shadowbanned for posting too much on TikTok unless you’re behaving like a spammer. Regular users will not be posting dozens or hundreds of videos a day. If you are not a spammer and you post 4+ videos a day, analyzing your analytics and making changes to your content will increase your views much faster than continuing to post more.
